Robert Yalden

Robert Yalden is a partner with Osler, Hoskin & Harcourt LLP where he practices business law and serves as co-head of the firm’s Mergers and Acquisitions Group. Prior to joining the firm’s Montreal office upon its opening in 2001, Mr. Yalden practised with the firm’s Toronto office. He is a member of the bars of Ontario (1991) and Quebec (1992).

Mr. Yalden is fluently bilingual. After primary and secondary school studies in both French and English, he received an undergraduate degree in philosophy and history from Queen’s University (B.A (Hons.) 1984), common law degrees from Oxford University (MA 1986) and the University of Toronto (LLB 1988), and a civil law degree from l’Université de Montréal (LLB 1991).  He also served as a law clerk to Madame Justice Bertha Wilson of the Supreme Court of Canada (1989-90).

Mr. Yalden has a strong commitment to education. He currently teaches a course on comparative corporate governance at McGill University’s Faculty of Law and is a member of the Faculty’s Advisory Board. He has taught at the University of Toronto Law School and sits as a member of Council of the University of Toronto Law School’s Alumni Association.  He has also published in the areas of business law, administrative law, constitutional law and legal history.

Mr. Yalden is active with several organizations. He is President of Equitas: the International Centre for Human Rights Education and a member of the boards of JP Morgan Bank Canada, the Canadian Centre for Ethics and Corporate Policy and the Laskin Foundation (responsible for Canada’s only nationwide bilingual pleading competition for law students).
