Saint John, N.B. With less than thirty days to the opening ceremony of the 31e Finale des Jeux de l’Acadie in Saint John from June 30th to July 4th, the Games Torch has now left Petit-Rocher, the host municipality of the last Games. As the Torch travels over 500 kilometers to its next point of destination, the Irving Oil Torch Relay will pass through the cities of Miramichi, Moncton and Fredericton.
For the President of la Société des Jeux de l’Acadie, Mr. Raphaël Moore, the Irving Oil Torch Relay is a powerful symbol. “Today, with the Torch Relay, we’ve crossed an important hurdle on the road leading us to the opening ceremonies. This relay links the host municipality of the last Games with Saint John, while presenting a widespread promotional event announcing the arrival of the Games and kicking off la Finale des Jeux de l’Acadie. It really puts people in the spirit of the Games”, stressed Mr. Moore.
"All along its voyage, the Games Torch will breathe energy, pride, brotherhood and the spirit of sport. And it’s an honor for us to receive the Jeunesse Acadienne and to allow this wonderful vitality, this force, to ignite our beautiful region this year” added the President of the Organizing Committee for the 31e Finale, Mr. Michel Côté.
As a sign of the energy that will be at the event, the Torch will make its triumphant entrance into Saint John on June 4th, escorted by over 300 students of the Centre scolaire Samuel-de-Champlain and their friends. The public is invited to join in on the celebration that will be following the Torch’s procession. The start time is at 10 a.m. in Carré King Square and the Torch will travel down King Street to in front of Saint John City Hall where an important press conference will be held.
Come cheer on the athletes! Support the Jeux de l’Acadie: it’s a rallying event for our youth!
