Published by French for the Future on 01 February 2012

Name: Kevin Thom

Age: 16

Grade: Grade 11

Hometown: Scarborough, Ontario

First language: English

Favourite music/artist: Electronic music: James Zabiela, Marcus Schossow, Bonobo

Favourite way to practice French: Talking on Skype with my French-speaking friends, as well as translating things for my friends.

Best experience “en français”: I was near Bloor and Bathurst (Toronto) and I ran into some spanish tourists who had gotten lost. I didn’t speak Spanish and they didn’t speak English, but we all spoke French, so I was able to help them find their way to their destination.

The coolest francophone country is: In my opinion, the coolest francophone country is Belgium because they have a good environment and lots of chocolate!

In the future, how will I use my French? In the future, I will use my French skills to help my work as a DJ. Right now I play music in some clubs in Toronto, but I’d like to advance to Montreal too, because they have a fantastic music scene with a lot of great artists like Amon Tobin, Ned Sheppard, Sultan and others.  They also host the music festival Mutek.

A place I’d like to go: I’d like to go to Europe, specifically to Germany, the Netherlands, France and Great Britain because I have made many friends there that I’d like to meet!

As a Featured Student, Kevin received a $50 gift certificate to
Renaud-Bray.
