January 2011's Featured Student is James Sun!



James Sun is a grade 10 student of Earl Haig Secondary School who came from Beijing in Grade 5. He enrolled in the core French program and fell in love with the language. Last year, he competed in the Canadian Parents for French Concours d'art oratoire and was awarded first place in the city competition. This year, he is hoping to attain a higher level in his French education and compete at the national level.

James is a passionate person and enjoys to be involved in his community. He competes at the provincial level for badminton, volunteers at Pronay’s Personal Injury Law Firm, teaches Chinese at Mon Sheong Foundation and attends a cooking class in a community centre.
He is also a young entrepreneur, and is involved with  A Junior Achievement Company, OneProsper Internationals as well as DECA.

Why do you think it is important to learn French
?  French is very important because it can open many doors.  Furthermore, it helps develop the brain for arithmetic, reading and presentations. 

Best experience “en français”
: My best experience in French is when I visited Quebec with my family and acted as translator.

The coolest Francophone country is, in your opinion
: I think France is the coolest Francophone country because it is a beautiful country and because it has delicious food, mmmm.

How you will use your French skills in the future
:  To communicate with international clients.  Also, I will use my knowledge of French to make new friends and I will teach the language to my children.

A place you would like to go: I would like to go to Switzerland.
