Featured Student: Raphael Picard

May's featured student was Raphael Picard

Although featured students are usually between 13 and 24, Raphael is such an exeptional young bilingual Canadian that we decided to bend the rules a little!

Raphael, in his own words:  I was born in Lasalle (Quebec) in 2000.  I stayed in Quebec until I was 3, then we moved to Medicine Hat in Alberta, where I started school.  It’s at that point in my life that I realised that other people spoke another language.  I therefore learned English by playing with friends and joining clubs at school.  Then we moved to the Calgary region where I currently live.  I am in grade 5 in a Francophone school where there are only 160 students from Kindergarten to grade 10.  We are a United Nations school.  I am a member of the student radio club where I suggest songs in French, English, and other languages.  I am also in Scouts, where I am a second.  I am responsible of evaluating my peers on their level of French in order to decide if they will receive a “Je parle français” badge.  I love playing guitar with my group at school.  We meet daily, just for the fun of playing

I wanted to add that I’m proud to be a Francophone!
