Caterina Sotiriadis
Caterina has taught modern languages from kindergarten to grade 12 in the public school system of Manitoba. At the university level she has taught in both the Faculties of Education and Arts (Department of French, Spanish and Italian) at the University of Manitoba, University of Winnipeg as well as at the University of Caen, France.
French consultant for the Bureau de l’éducation française, the Department of Education, Training and Youth for the province of Manitoba Caterina has developed curriculum and policy, created resource materials and conducted in-services throughout Manitoba for numerous years. Currently an independent education consultant, Caterina provides training and consulting to various learning institutions, associations and government bodies across Canada. As a published writer, Caterina has authored several educational works for Nelson Canada, Tralco and Oxford University Press, as well as authoring several creative non-fiction pieces.
Caterina received her Bachelor of Arts (honours) in French and Spanish at the University of Manitoba. Awarded a scholarship from La Sorbonne, France, Caterina completed her Teaching Certificate in Paris before returning to the University of Manitoba to obtain Bachelor and Master’s degrees in Education from the University of Manitoba.
Caterina’s talents have also been applied in the service of numerous local and national volunteer boards in executive positions including past-president of the Canadian Association of Second Language Teachers (CASLT), secretary/treasurer of the Association of Italian Canadian Writers (AICW), past-president of the Dante Alighieri Cultural Society of Winnipeg, and the current president of the Sons of Italy, Lupa di Roma Lodge. She has also chaired several provincial and national conferences in languages and culture.
A woman of many facets, Caterina speaks five languages and enjoys writing, theatre, old museums, art galleries and travel. An advocate of the importance of education and life-long learning, Caterina truly believes « only the educated are free ».
